Unfortunately, no. Most of our courses are not CSP funded.
Even though Cairnmillar is a registered charity, we do not receive any government funding for our main higher education activities. This means that Cairnmillar cannot offer Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) in any of our major programs. We understand that this is disappointing to students and we continue to lobby government and our Peak Body ITECA for changes to this unfair funding model.
We do our best to keep tuition costs as low as possible while still providing high quality education to all our students.
Will the 2020 Government Fees changes impact Cairnmillar?
The short answer is unfortunately no. The announcements made by the Hon Dan Tehan about government funding and student fee caps for Clinical Psychology and other programs in June and July 2020 only applied to CSPs and do not apply to full-fee unfunded places. See also applicant FAQs.
2021 CSP Government Funded Short Courses
We are very lucky to be able to offer three special pathway programs which are government funded. There places are only available for students who meet the specific target criteria for the entry pathway to a counselling or psychology program and who would not normally have the opportunity to undertake this kind of program. 2022 CSP Government Funded Short Courses
We may not know until early 2022 if any further funding is offered for our three Grad Certs which were funded in 2021. We will of course let students and applicants know as soon as possible if further funding is offered.
If funding is offered to us again in 2022 it will not be available for Graduate Diploma, Honours or Masters places even if you had a funded Grad Cert place in 2021. We understand that this is disappointing. Unfortunately we are bound by government funding priorities and cannot influence when or how the funding is offered.
CSP Funding for 2023 onward
We were able to offer some CSP funded short courses (Graduate Certificates) in 2021-22 however this funding allocation has been fully committed and we do not expect to be able to offer any further CSP intakes at this time.
The funding in 2021 and 2022 was part of a COVID recovery budget and will not be offered to us again. The government is not expecting to extend this scheme or reallocate unused funding from other providers at this stage.
At the moment, psychology and counselling are not considered a national priority training area for CSP funding purposes by the Australian Government. We would love to be able to offer more funded opportunities and apologise for any disappointment caused. We recommend that concerns about the lack of priority and non-funding of psychology and counselling programs at independent providers be referred to your local federal government representatives.
