When are class timetables published?
Provisional class timetables are usually published in December for the following year.
Once your units are live in Canvas, any announcements about any minor changes to weekly classes will be posted there (including what happens if you have a class on a public holiday). Always keep an eye on your Canvas announcements. See: https://cairnmillar.instructure.com/

How do I choose my streams/class times?
Students will receive access to their relevant coursework units on Canvas prior to Week 1 of classes.
You will gain access during the Canvas Timetable Access Period. During this time, the Canvas sites will not yet include assessment information or learning content. However, the sites will be available for students to select and allocate themselves into their preferred class time or stream.
This process will be completed via the “Groups” function, located under the “People” tab on each unit’s Canvas site.
For more information about this period, please see When will I get access to my units on Canvas?
What is a standard timetable?
A typical timetable for taught subjects in most courses are 3 hour seminar style (combined tutorial and lecture) sessions from either 9:00am to 12:00pm or 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Classes are held on campus or online, depending on the contact mode for the subject you are taking (whether it is an online or on campus subject).
The main timetable is organised by Course groups but not all students (e.g. part-time students) will always take all classes for their course or program. For more information to help you understand your timetables see: Class Timetable Planning and Class Room Allocations
Timetable Changes
Class timetables are provisional. This means that changes can occur even after they have been published. Sometimes changes are needed due to situations beyond control. For example; variation in class sizes, staffing availabilities, or room allocation clashes. Every measure is taken to minimise changes to class timetabling. In the event that there is a change, they are most likely to occur up until the first week of a semester, and all enrolled students are provided as much notice as possible.
Teaching and student support services are not able to give timetable advice before publication. If you have been provided with informal suggestions about when classes may be held in an unpublished teaching period (e.g. next year) please be aware that the advice may change without notice before publication. You must still check the timetable when it is published to confirm when your classes are planned.
In summary: Class times, rooms and dates are still subject to possible change (with notice) after publication until the first week of teaching. We try to avoid late changes, but they can happen. If changes are needed we will let enrolled students know as soon as we know.
