Special Consideration

Special Consideration may be an option in circumstances where a standard assessment extension request exceeds the 10 working days.  For requests that are less than 10 working days, please complete the Assignment Extension form.

Special Consideration is also for other things such as an exam or missed in-class work. The forms are on the Student Admin Resources section of my.CMI but we encourage you to talk to your Course Coordinator or the Head of School before making an application.

If you are applying for special consideration on medical grounds make sure that your health care provider completes the Health Care Professional Certification (download here or via the SC Request form) as standard medical certificates often do not give enough detail for special consideration other than short extensions so we have a special form to help your doctor or other health care professional give us the information we need to assesses and support your application.

For fairness to all students, applications for special consideration must be made on the appropriate Special Consideration application form and submitted:

  1. As soon as possible once the circumstances become apparent
  2. No later than 2 days after the assessment task is due
  3. Must be made prior to the release of results for the assessment task
  4. Documentary evidence to support your application must be current. It is recommended that documentation provided in support of applications on medical grounds include a consultation date on the day of, or the day following the exam or final assessment due date. Back-dated medical certificates will not be accepted.

Note: Grade Consideration (e.g. additional marks for adverse circumstances) is not possible at Cairnmillar. Supplementary or alternative assessments are the most common outcome for approved applications for special consideration. Also, applications made take up to 5 business days to respond
