Aside from our Bachelor of Psychology and Counselling course, most courses at Cairnmillar are considered postgraduate courses and therefore most of our students are not eligible for a Myki concession. For more information see: http://ptv.vic.gov.au/ or contact Myki or Public Transport Victoria (PTV) directly.
We understand that this can be concerning for many students but unfortunately it is a State Government decision which applies to all postgraduate courses at all higher education providers and universities. The Public Transport Users Association (PTUA) are campaigning to have this restriction changed so that postgraduate students will also be eligible. See: http://www.ptua.org.au/policy/fares/
Exception: Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)
PTV has confirmed that the BPsych(Honours) course can be considered to be undergraduate for tertiary student concession purposes and added this course only to their list of courses authorised for tertiary student concessions. This is great news for our Honours students. Please see: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/myki/concessions-and-free-travel/children-and-students/tertiary-students/
If you are enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) or the Bachelor of Psychology and Counselling, then you can ask your Program Coordinators or Reception to sign your PTV Tertiary Student ID form.
Troubleshooting:
Unfortunately, some Honours students have still had difficulty obtaining a concession card. It seems that PTV have various and sometimes quite out of date lists at some locations or some other issues in their approval processes. Sometimes the person checking looks under ‘The Cairnmillar Institute’ instead of just ‘Cairnmillar Institute’ and does not think to check both options, a spelling error or other issues.
We can assure you that the course is listed as approved for concessions (see: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/myki/concessions-and-free-travel/children-and-students/tertiary-students/)
This is not something we can resolve on your behalf. If you are an honours student and your request is refused at a PTV information centre, we recommend that you pursue the matter directly with PTV as soon as possible. As you can see the BPsych Honours course is listed as being approved on the PTV website (link above) so refusal of such a request is an error on the part of the person or people trying to assist you or the internal PTV processes. If you follow up and provide the link (https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/myki/concessions-and-free-travel/children-and-students/tertiary-students/) then PTV should be able to sort it out for you.
