All current C&P students are eligible to either apply for further study pathways within the Counselling and Psychotherapy sequence or exit upon completing their existing course. Applications for the further study will open as part of each admissions intake, with students eligible to receive recognition of prior learning for any existing completed units, where applicable. Students can contact the Applications team for further information about their options, or explore the Cairnmillar website for more details on entry criteria.
Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy
Current students in the Graduate Certificate of Counselling and Psychotherapy course are eligible to apply for transfer into the second semester of the Graduate Diploma upon completion of their existing course. Students are encouraged to review the Nested Program structure and the Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy course page on the Cairnmillar website for more information on fees, conditions and other course details before applying. Applications for the Graduate Diploma course are subject to:
- a 60% or better WAM in the Graduate Certificate, and
- evaluation of each student’s readiness for progressing to the Graduate Diploma course (including internal panel review and other academic feedback)
Applications for the Graduate Diploma course can be submitted through the Applications portal in Paradigm, and current Graduate Certificate students will be eligible for a conditional offer for the upcoming intake, typically commencing in Semester 2 of the academic year where credit transfers are applied.
Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy
Current students in the Graduate Certificate or the Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy course are eligible to apply for transfer into the Masters course upon completion of their existing studies. Admitted students may commence either in the second semester or the second year of the Masters program, depending on any approved recognition of prior learning. Students are encouraged to review the Nested Program structure and the Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy course page on the Cairnmillar website for more information on fees, conditions and other course details before applying. Applications for the Masters course are subject to:
- a 70% or better WAM in their existing course,
- no previous special considerations for entry, and
- evaluation of each student’s readiness for progressing to the Masters course (including internal panel review and other academic feedback)
Applications for the Masters course can be submitted through the Applications portal in Paradigm, and current students will be eligible for a conditional offer for the upcoming intake, commencing in either Semester 1 or 2 of the academic year, depending on applied credit transfers.
C&P Course Completion and Early Exit
All students who complete their C&P course before applying for further studies are eligible to apply to graduate from their current course prior to commencing a second degree. Students will receive further information about the graduation process in advance of each graduation period. See also: Graduation
Additionally, students in the CAP suite of courses may be eligible to exit early from their current course and graduate out with a lower-level qualification as a result of the nested program sequences. Current Masters students may be eligible to exit early with either a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and Graduate Diploma students may be eligible to exit early with a Graduate Certificate award.
Requests can be made as part of the course withdrawal application, and students considering this should speak to their Course Coordinator or Student Services for further advice on their options. Once students exit and graduate with a conferred degree, future applications to return to study will be submitted and reviewed as part of standard Cairnmillar admissions processes, and these students will no longer be eligible for an internal transfer as described in the above sections.
To transfer to another exit point, please contact the Counselling and Psychotherapy Course Coordinator and complete the Course Withdrawal form with your alternate exit request indicated.
