Special Consideration (other than an extension)

In circumstances where an extension is not possible, such as an exam or missed in-class work, then Special Consideration may be an option. The forms are on the Student Admin Resources section of my.CMI and you can find them by searching the myCMI knowledgebase.

If you are applying for special consideration on medical grounds make sure that your health care provider completes the Health Care Professional Certification (download here or via the SC Request form) as standard medical certificates often do not give enough detail for special consideration other than short extensions so we have a special form to help your doctor or other health care professional give us the information we need to assesses and support your application.

For fairness to all students, applications for special consideration must be made on the appropriate Special Consideration application form and submitted:

  1. No later than 2 business days after the assessment due date, except in extreme circumstances.
  2. Before the release of results for the affected assessment.

Note: Applications that fall outside these timeframes may not be considered unless exceptional justification is provided, please note that responses to application may take up to 5 business days to respond. Grade Consideration (e.g. additional marks for adverse circumstances) is not possible at Cairnmillar. Supplementary or alternative assessments are the most common outcome for approved applications for special consideration.
