Evacuation Procedures
We have two alarms on the Hawthorn Campus. A *beep beep* warning sound, or a *woop woop* evacuation sound.
If you hear the *beep beep beep* please remain calm but be ready to evacuate if the alarm changes or PA announcements tell you to do so. Yes, you can get your coat or bag if it is only a *beep beep* alarm!
If you hear the *woop woop* alarm please evacuate the building via the nearest safe exit as quickly and calmly as possible. In the event of an evacuation alarm do not use the elevator and do not stop to collect your belongings.
Please follow the instructions of your Fire Wardens (you will recognise us by our bright coloured hardhats) or the PA announcement system even if instructions vary from the standard procedure.
The evacuation point for the Institute is the corner of Tooronga and Toorak Roads, please remain on this side of the crossing. Wardens and teachers will do a head count and will let you know when or if it is safe to re-enter the building.
