Grad Cert & Grad Dip transfers at CMI

Graduate Certificate of Psychological Sciences

Standard Pathway (transfer with credit to Grad Dip Psych Sci)

If you are enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Psychological Sciences (Grad Cert) & obtain a WAM of 65% with a result of 65 in PSY402, you may be eligible to transfer into the Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science

Note: applications to transfer are subject to a 65% or credit grade average for direct entry students.

It is expected you will not graduate from the Graduate Certificate of Psychological Sciences if you transfer to the Graduate Diploma at CMI. Your status for the Grad Cert will be ‘Transferred’.

If you decline your transfer offer or fail to meet the minimum requirements to transfer you will be able to exit and graduate with the Graduate Certificate of Psychological Sciences.

Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science (automatic pathway for CMI Honours admission)

Students who are enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science at CMI may be eligible for transfer into the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours). The automatic pathway criteria include maintaining a minimum WAM of 70% with a minimum grade of 65% in either PSY402 or PSY408.

Students who are enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Psychological Science at CMI with an existing Bachelor of Psychology degree may also be eligible for transfer into the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours). The automatic pathway criteria include maintaining a minimum WAM of 70% with a minimum grade of 65% in either PSY402 or PSY408.

If your WAM for the Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science at CMI is below 70% or you receive a grade below 65 for PSY402 or PSY408, you will be allowed to apply for Honours at CMI provided you meet the CMI Honours admission requirements.

If your CMI Grad Dip WAM is below the CMI Honours admission requirements you will not be eligible for further study in psychology at Cairnmillar at this time. If this impacts you, see: Career Guidance

All refresher students will be expected to apply to graduate from their qualification at the end of a given year.

Students in the Graduate Diploma of Psychological Sciences may also be eligible to exit early from their current course and graduate with a lower level qualification of the Graduate Certificate. Students interested in exiting early from their current course with a lower-level qualification can make these requests as part of their course withdrawal application, and are encouraged to speak with their Course Coordinators or Student Services in advance for further advice and information: Course Withdrawal Form

Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy

The application process will be announced soon and will be similar to your original application for the Grad Dip of Counselling and Psychotherapy at CMI.  Please ensure you select the Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy course enrolment.

  • You will NOT need to submit references.
  • Your application will be internally assessed for readiness and suitability for our Masters program by a panel. This will be done in consultation with your teachers.
  • Your performance in the graduate diploma and demonstration of inherent requirements will be considered.
  • Transfer offers will be full-fee only (upfront/direct or with FEE-HELP if eligible)

Please keep in mind that places in the Masters program are limited and only a small number of applicants will be offered a place. The Course Coordinator will be approving the final decision.

It is expected that you will not graduate from Graduate Diploma if you transfer to the Masters. Your status for the Grad Dip will by ‘Transferred’ unless you make a special request to graduate from the Graduate Diploma of Counselling and Psychotherapy.  We will provide more information on this closer to the time.

Those who choose not to transfer or are unsuccessful in transferring will need to complete the application to graduate form and will graduate with a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
