Another option to consider for gaining clinical endorsement is the new post-registration option.
Cairnmillar, and most likely other providers, will soon be offering 1-year post-registration endorsement bridging programs for 5+1 registered psychologists to add Clinical endorsement after registration. More information about the Master of Clinical Psychology (Post-registration) can be found on the Cairnmillar website.
MPP and MPPP students will need to first complete your +1 internship to obtain general registration, then work for a further year as a fully registered psychologist before applying to one of these programs.
However, an advantage to this pathway is the experience gained in the internship and subsequent practice, as well as the fact that you could be working as a professional psychologist (and therefore earning) while also gaining your Clinical endorsement in the evenings and weekends. We think this will be a very viable pathway under the new APAC standards and will produce many exceptional and highly employable practitioners. We do expect the first few years to be incredibly competitive, but we also plan to give priority to our own MPP and MPPP graduates and alumni if possible.
The Cairnmillar Master of Clinical Psychology (Post-registration) offering is an intensified blended mode program (taught online plus placement and on-campus intensives) designed for working professionals. Full-time study is 8 units per year (2 units per term or 4 units per semester) or part-time study is 4 units per year (1 unit per term or 2 units per semester). The contact hours for taught coursework units are 1.5 days (intensive) per unit of study, plus 1-3 hours of synchronous or asynchronous online learning per week during teaching time most of which can be undertaken after hours or on weekends. There are three placement units, which require 750 hours of placement total across the course. Placement units are not expected to start until 2021.
