What is a TFN? When and how do I provide it?
To request a FEE-HELP loan you need a valid Australian Tax File Number (TFN).
For more information about TFNs including how to apply for one or find out what your TFN is, see the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website: https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Tax-file-number/
You will normally supply your TFN to us via the secure government eCAF system when you apply for FEE-HELP.
What if my TFN is Invalid?
If your TFN cannot be confirmed by the ATO and HITS systems they will let us know and then we will contact you. This normally happens after census but before the end of your first semester of study in a course.
You will normally only have two weeks to resolve the issue (normally either by providing formal evidence of your correct TFN or updating your personal details either with us or with the ATO to match what you have provided to us).
For more information on possible problems and how to correct them, see this resource from StudyAssist: https://www.studyassist.gov.au/help-loans/my-tfn-invalid
We cannot take TFN information the phone and cannot complete an eCAF for you. Never email your TFN. If you do need to provide updated evidence for your TFN, you will need to do so in person at Reception.
