What is Turnitin?
Turnitin is text matching software. It is used to match similarities of an assignment submission against online data. This includes text available on the internet and Turnitin’s database of student submissions. The purpose is to detect overlaps of text which may signal plagiarism. It does this by identifying where identical text is found and providing a percentage score of matching text. This may not necessarily mean plagiarism exists, but can indicate a potential problem to an instructor. They may then use the report to look carefully at the work and its similarities to other sources.
Do I need to do anything for my assignment to go through Turnitin?
No, most assignment submissions will automatically go through Turnitin. This means that you simply need to submit your assignment via Canvas in the way that you usually would.
