Weighted Average Mark (WAM)
WAM represents your weighted average mark – the mark for each completed unit x the credit points for the unit / by the total marked credit points.
WAM does not include CP results or other ‘ungraded’ results.
Your system generated (Paradigm) WAM is your WAM for all published (completed) unit results completed under your current course of study. You can view your current system calculated WAM on the Course Details page of Paradigm.
System generated WAM does not automatically include RPL which may or may not be counted for various purposes. If you have RPL the original grade may be included in WAM calculations for some purposes.

Grade Point Average (GPA)
Cairnmillar does not officially use a GPA system as WAM is more accurate/specific. However our Paradigm Student Records system does calculate a GPA on a 4 point scale which you may see occasionally.
- 4 = H1 or 80-100 WAM
- 3 = H2A or 70-79 WAM
- 2 = H2B or 60-69 WAM
- 1 = Pass or 50-59 WAM
- 0 = Fail average or below, 49% or lower WAM
A WAM or a 4 GPA point scale are the most common in Australia. Some universities do use a 7 point or 9 point GPA scale instead or as well as WAM though, you should contact those universities directly to find out how your WAM will be converted to their scale.

Class of Honours
We do not publish student’s class of Honours on their testamurs. Unfortunately for a range of practical resourcing and academic policy concerns this is not something the Board wishes to pursue further at this stage. In particular the limiting factors of needing to print class of honours for all graduates (not just those who did very well), the workload required to administer this well, and the possible impacts on those who do not get the very best marks made this something that goes against many of the Institute’s principles.
