Admissions and Compliance and Class Requirements (International Students)

General information about applying for courses at Cairnmillar (which we assume you have already done by default of being a current international student) can be found here.

As an international student, it is important that you are aware of the policies and laws that are of direct relevance to you. Cairnmillar has an International Student policies which you can download here. As a provider for international students, Cairnmillar is also bound to follow the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act, which you can access by visiting the Australian Government’s website. Moreover, Cairnmillar must follow the the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018, which you can download from the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) website.

Required Personal Information

By law, you are required to ensure that you provide Cairnmillar with the following information:

  1. Your contact details (i.e., current residential address, phone number, and personal email address)
  2. Who to contact in the event of an emergency
  3. You must notify us in writing any changes to this information within 7 days

Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) for International Students

A Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) for international students seeking a student visa can only be issued from the government PRISMS system.

A COE is only used for international students applying for a Student Visa.

After you have returned your signed International Student Agreement and paid for your first semester fees, an COE will be issued and emailed to you. You should keep your COE somewhere safe for your ongoing records even after you finish your studies. If you do lose it or need another copy, please contact education@cairnmillar.edu.au

Visa Conditions

You are obligated to ensure that you are aware of and do not violate your visa conditions. You can find all the relevant conditions in relation to student visas from the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs (for example how much you can work, whether you can be part-time, changing courses or institutions, or whether you need to take a break during your studies, etc.). Please be aware of when your visa will expire.

 

Visa and Migration Advice

Under legislation, the Institute is not permitted to provide advice about migration or visas. Only the Department of Home Affairs, a Registered Migration Agent or a Migration Lawyer are permitted to do so.

International students can find more information about applying for or extending student visas directly from the Department of Home Affairs

If you have any further questions about your visa and your obligations as a student visa-holder you should contact a registered migration agent, a migration lawyer or other registered service. You can find a list of all registered migration agents and advisors at the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority website.

The services offered by migration agents or visa advisors are sometimes recommended to us. If you would like to use them you can contact them with the below details. Please be aware that you will need to pay for any fees charged and the Cairnmillar Institute will not be entering into any arrangement with any service provider to pay fees or a commission on your tuition for any international education agents or other services. Cairnmillar does not pay commission for enrolments of international students under any circumstances.

Class Requirements and Appeals

Each course varies regarding its compulsory requirements. For example, whilst various psychology courses may not have tutorial attendance as compulsory, counselling courses do require (by the regulator) that you attend at least 80% of tutorials. It is your responsibility to ensure that you discuss the requirements of the course with your course co-ordinator.

The Australian Centre for Learning and Education (TACLE):

This is an Australian owned and operated boutique education consulting firm. The team consists of professionals including a PIER qualified education agent and a registered MARA agent which ensures quality and authentic services for the students and migrants. They are currently offering a suite of services like visa services, student support and coaching in PTE and IELTS. They are also offering professional workshops for skilled migrants in engineering, law, and leadership.
