What research software is available to CMI staff/students?
- Quantitative analysis
- jamovi is the statistical analysis program that CMI uses for the teaching of quantitative research methods. It is important to note that staff/student can use whatever statistical tool most appropriate for them in their research work. There is no expectation that you must use jamovi for your quantitative analysis. However, CMI encourages its use due to its accessibility (it is free and easy to use) and comprehensive range of statistical functions. It is built upon the market leading statistical programming language R.

- An important strength of jamovi is the potential to write R code from within the program, which dramatically widens its statistical capabilities. An example of this approach can be seen here.
- A small number of SPSS licenses are available for staff use only. To reserve use of an SPSS license for a limited period, submit the SPSS Faculty Access Pack form available on InSite.

- Qualitative analysis
- An online transcription service, Otter, can be accessed by CMI staff and students. Please email Camilla Nicoll (camilla.nicoll@Cairnmillar.edu.au) to schedule access to the Otter software.
Data collection tools
- Qualtrics is the online survey platform that all staff and students have access to via the CMI paid account.

What research support is available to CMI staff/students?
- Both Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) students have access to funds ($100 per student) for project costs such as recruitment. These funds are managed via your supervisor and should be discussed with them directly.
- Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) students can attend research methodology drop-in sessions on Thursday afternoons during the second semester. These sessions are available for honours students with any general analysis questions regarding their thesis research project.

What are the research thesis requirements, submission format and how are they graded?

- For Honours thesis information, please refer to the HON455/HON4565 Unit Outline and Empirical Report Assessment Guide, available on the HON455/HON456 Canvas Honours theses (empirical reports) are marked internally by two independent examiners.
Allocation of supervisors for research projects
- The general approach is that a list of proposed projects from CMI supervisors is given to CMI students. From that list they indicate their project preference (e.g., via a Qualtrics survey for Master and Honours projects) and that information is used to allocate projects to students. DPsych and PhD students should contact their course coordinator regarding their process for supervisor allocation.
