Cairnmillar covers professional indemnity insurance for all students when they engage in a professional placement and are enrolled in a relevant placement unit as part of their course. You are only insured for approved placement related activities.
You, or your employer or volunteer organisation, will need to provide your own relevant insurances for non-placement work e.g. volunteers or ABA therapists.
Your Placement Coordinator is able to provide a copy of the certificate of insurance directly to the placement provider (which we obtain from Corporate Services if required) but we have normally resolved this when an MOU is established with a provider long before students go on placement. Students should not need the certificate of insurance or other insurance evidence while on placement, even for new placements. If someone at placement asks you for this, refer them back to your Placement Coordinator.
