Cairnmillar carefully monitors and supports students’ academic progress in accordance with the SSP008 Academic Progress and Review Policy. A progress review is not a negative but a form of early intervention to help support a student to progress efficiently and effectively through their course.
Students who are identified as being potentially at risk of poor academic performance will normally be contacted for an informal review or discussion about their grades or progress issues. Where possible many barriers and issues can be resolved at that point.
Where a student fails subjects, is unable to improve performance, goes AWOL or is otherwise identified as formally at risk of failing the course, then a formal Academic Progress Review Panel may be formed by the Academic Integrity and Progress Committee (AIPC).
Student Progress Agreements
The most common outcome of a formal Academic Progress Review Panel hearing is a formal agreement between the student and Cairnmillar, as represented by the AIPC. The agreement will state any future or current enrolment restrictions, any agreed extensions or assessment arrangements (if applicable), and detail the improvements required and any additional support required for the student to progress into the next or future periods of enrolment at Cairnmillar.
A student progress agreement is binding and failure to meet any of the student conditions may result in termination of your enrolment or failure of you course.
