What to Expect During Your Placement

Before you begin your placement, you will receive a Welcome to Sonia Online email several weeks in advance. Sonia Online is our placements management system as of 2025, where you can access details regarding your placement, assessment forms, and other important information.

You will also receive an invite to Canvas so your placement coordinators can communicate with you through announcements and discussion boards. Some units may require students to also complete pre-placement works during semester 1 on Canvas.

Your placement is an exciting opportunity to apply your learning in real-world settings and develop essential skills. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Real-World Experience: You’ll work closely with clients in a professional environment, gaining hands-on experience that will help build your confidence and competence as a practitioner.

    • and more…You can find the full list of requirements in your placement handbook. You’ll need to submit these by the specified deadlines, so staying organised is key!
  • Supervision & Support: Regular supervision sessions with your individual supervisor will provide invaluable guidance, feedback, and professional development. Make the most of this time to ask questions and discuss any challenges.
  • Group Supervision: In addition to one-on-one supervision, you’ll also participate in fortnightly group supervision sessions. These sessions are a valuable opportunity to discuss your cases and experiences with peers, share insights, and receive collective feedback in a supportive environment.
  • Your placement representative will serve as your onsite primary point of contact at the provider organisation throughout your placement, offering guidance and support as needed.
  • Placement Handbooks: For detailed information on your specific placement, including the assessment submission process, expectations, and important dates, refer to your placement handbook. This is your go-to resource for understanding the requirements and making the most of your placement.
