Placement Extension Application Process

If you need to extend your placement (i.e. any extra days beyond the original end date on your placement contract) you must submit a Placement Extension request. Be aware that if your extension runs over the next census date then an Extension unit may need to be added to your course and an enrolment fee my apply. Read more about fees here.

When you’re still actively on Placement (at the agency or school)

Placement extensions can be applied for under exceptional circumstances eg. compassionate grounds, major issues at the placement agency / school, extreme lack of acquired hours etc. You should be aiming to complete your hours by the original end date as per your placement contract but if you find this is impossible then speak to your Supervisor and Placement Coordinator to discuss potentially applying for a Placement Extension.

You must apply for your extension at least two weeks before the original end date as per your placement contract via the online request form and choosing the ‘Placement Extension (Placement still active)‘ option. You should know by this time if an extension is the right option.

Your request will be reviewed by your Placement Coordinator and if given the go-ahead, you will be emailed an approval. Note: If your request is deemed extensive and/or may incur extra enrolment or supervision fees, you will be notified accordingly.

NOTE: If you are placed at more than one placement location (agency/school) and need to extend more than one placement location, you need to submit an extension form per agency/school.

Please speak to your relevant Placement Coordinator if you have any questions or concerns.

Document Only – When you have finished at your placement but still have outstanding placement documentation

Doc Only Extensions can only be for an extra 7 days per request with a limit of 2 requests per placement unless under extraordinary circumstances.

This option is selected if you have finished up at the placement (i.e. all hours accrued, all assessment requirements submitted) but still have finalised placement assessment documents to be submitted.

If submission of your documents is delayed and can’t be completed by the original end date as per your Placement Contract, you are still required to submit the request for a placement extension but choosing the Placement Documentation Only Extension (Placement has finished, only documents outstanding)’ option. This will then need to be approved by your Placement Coordinator.  Once approved, you will be advised of your final due date for your paperwork.  No other action will be required.
